About this film

Denzel Washington plays Malcolm X across the key chapters of his life in this 1992 biographical drama directed by Spike Lee and co-written with Arnold Perl. The film draws largely on Alex Haley's 1965 book The Autobiography of Malcolm X, completed after Malcolm X's death, covering his criminal career, imprisonment in the 1950s, conversion to Islam, and rise as a Nation of Islam minister before his break from the group. Angela Bassett and Albert Hall co-star, with cameo appearances by Bobby Seale and Nelson Mandela.
