I recently watched Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, and it was amazing. I first watched it in IMAX — not true 70mm IMAX, since that isn't available in India, but whatever IMAX we do have here. It ran about three hours, and it captured the essence of the book so well while also being a complete interpretation of its own.
In the book, Odysseus isn't a broken character. He's a man of pride, cunning and clever, and far from perfect — there's some questionable character to him. In the film he's completely reinvented. He's a good man, and he's broken: dealing with the trauma of the war, coming to terms with the violence he witnessed and the violence he was himself part of — in fact that's one of the main threads, with the idea of the horse and everything.
It was beautiful. The way they portrayed the gods was amazing, and Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland are all amazing too. Most importantly, the music was so good. I loved it so much that I watched it again.
