About this film

Mel Gibson directs this biographical war film, based on the 2004 documentary The Conscientious Objector. Andrew Garfield plays Desmond Doss, a Seventh-day Adventist who enlists as an Army combat medic during the Second World War but refuses to carry a weapon, serving instead during the Battle of Okinawa. Doss became the first conscientious objector awarded the Medal of Honor. Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, and Vince Vaughn appear in supporting roles.
