About this film

Stanley Kubrick directs and produces this psychological horror film, based on Stephen King's 1977 novel and co-written with Diane Johnson. Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance, a recovering alcoholic and aspiring novelist who takes a winter caretaker job at an isolated mountain hotel with his wife Wendy, played by Shelley Duvall, and their clairvoyant son Danny, played by Danny Lloyd. Filmed almost entirely at EMI Elstree Studios in England, the production used the newly developed Steadicam rig for several scenes.
