About this film

Brian De Palma directs this 1983 crime drama, written by Oliver Stone and loosely based on the 1930 novel by Armitage Trail, itself the source for a 1932 film directed by Howard Hawks. Al Pacino plays Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee who arrives in Miami during the 1980 Mariel boatlift and rises to control much of the city's cocaine trade. Growing police pressure, wars with Colombian cartels, and his own drug-fueled paranoia drive his downfall.
