About this film

David Yates makes his Harry Potter directing debut with this 2007 adaptation, working from a screenplay by Michael Goldenberg rather than the series' usual writer Steve Kloves. Set during Harry's fifth year, the story follows the Ministry of Magic's denial that Voldemort has returned, and a new professor whose teaching leaves Hogwarts students unprepared to defend themselves. Harry responds by secretly teaching his classmates to fight back. Filming took place across England, Scotland, and Leavesden Film Studios in 2006.
