About this film

Peter Farrelly directs this biographical comedy-drama based on the 1962 tour of the Deep South by African American pianist Don Shirley and his Italian American driver, Frank 'Tony Lip' Vallelonga. Viggo Mortensen plays Vallelonga and Mahershala Ali plays Shirley. The screenplay, written by Farrelly with Vallelonga's son Nick and Brian Hayes Currie, draws on interviews and letters Vallelonga wrote his wife. Its title refers to The Negro Motorist Green Book, a travel guide for Black motorists published from 1936 to 1966.
