About this film

Robert Zemeckis directs this 1994 film, adapted by Eric Roth from Winston Groom's 1986 novel. Tom Hanks plays the title character, a man with a low IQ who moves through decades of American history, his path repeatedly crossing major events of the 20th century. Visual effects place Hanks alongside archival footage throughout. Robin Wright plays the woman he loves throughout his life, who remains out of reach despite his achievements, while Gary Sinise plays his army lieutenant.
