About this film

Christopher Nolan writes, directs, and produces this 2017 war film about the 1940 evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, told from perspectives on land, sea, and air. The cast includes Fionn Whitehead, Cillian Murphy, and Tom Hardy, along with Harry Styles in his film debut. Nolan kept dialogue sparse, relying instead on cinematography and music to build tension. Filming began in Dunkirk in May 2016 and wrapped in Los Angeles that September, using thousands of extras and historic boats.
