About this film

Avatar, written and directed by James Cameron and released in 2009, is set on Pandora, a moon in the mid twenty second century where humans mine the mineral unobtanium, threatening the local Na'vi. Sam Worthington plays a paraplegic Marine who operates a genetically engineered Na'vi body, or avatar, and is torn between his orders and the alien civilization he comes to know. Cameron began developing the film in 1994, and it went on to become, at the time, the highest grossing film ever made.
