About this film

Alex Garland writes and directs this 2018 science-fiction horror film, loosely based on the 2014 novel by Jeff VanderMeer. Natalie Portman plays a biologist who joins a dangerous expedition into the Shimmer, a quarantined zone where mutating plants and animals have appeared following an alien presence, and where the ordinary laws of nature no longer hold. Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac round out the cast.
