About this film

Sam Mendes directs and co-writes this British war film, partly inspired by stories his grandfather Alfred told him about serving in the First World War. Set after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich, it follows two soldiers, played by George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman, ordered to cross enemy territory and deliver a message calling off a doomed attack. Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch appear in supporting roles.
