About this book

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, published by Mark Twain in 1876, follows a boy growing up along the Mississippi River in the fictional town of St. Petersburg, modeled on Hannibal, Missouri, where Twain spent his own childhood. Tom gets into a string of scrapes, often alongside his friend Huckleberry Finn. The book sold poorly on release but became the best-selling of Twain's works during his lifetime, and was followed by a sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, in 1885.
