About this book

John Green's novel, published in January 2012, is narrated by Hazel Grace Lancaster, a sixteen-year-old with thyroid cancer that has spread to her lungs. Green drew on his time as a student chaplain in a children's hospital, and dedicated the book to his friend Esther Earl, who died of thyroid cancer at sixteen. At a cancer patient support group, Hazel meets Augustus, and the two fall for each other while both live with terminal illness.
