About this book

Jay Asher's 2007 young adult novel follows high schooler Clay Jensen, who comes home to find a box of thirteen recorded cassette tapes left by his classmate Hannah Baker, two weeks after her suicide. On the tapes, Hannah names thirteen reasons, and thirteen people, that she blames for her death. Clay is the ninth person to receive the tapes and learns how he appears on Hannah's list. Asher based Hannah's character partly on a close relative who had attempted suicide.
